Alumni at Work

My peers come from diverse backgrounds: mechanical engineering, neuroscience, computer science and geospatial mapping. With the newly compiled alumni database, I saw an opportunity to highlight unexpected paths for the Graduate Student Portfolio Review.

What are students curious about?

Prototype tests revealed that design students were interested in seeing what job roles alumni were in beyond design. To introduce nuance without overwhelming, I grouped roles into 5 categories instead of the initial 12.

Iterating based on audience feedback. At first, I assumed simple was better, but people were often left wondering what was behind abstractions like ‘design role vs non-design role’.

“I didn’t know you guys did more than just design. Cool.” – My mum, 2025

Managing Alumni Privacy

Alumni data privacy was an important consideration, so I decided to use the visualization as an opportunity to redirect students to a request form—allowing them to get select contact details like LinkedIn & Website links.

You found my lil hamburger menu! This is a reminder to get some food, water, and rest 😌
